The next generation of packaging should be eco-efficient in respect to its source, usage benefit and end of life. The GLOPACK project is investigating food packaging with no environmental footprint and the ability to extend the shelf life of food products.
About the GLOPACK project
The main objectives of the GLOPACK project are to increase the Technology Readiness Levels of packaging solutions in advanced stages of research. Packaging solutions will be presented in a Decision Support System (software tool) designed to help food producers choose food packaging solutions according to their specific criteria. By involving all food chain stakeholders, from the researcher up to the consumer, GLOPACK project will develop a strategy enabling the reduction of food environmental footprint and acceleration of the transition to a circular economy. The project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research programme.

Decision Support System
The Decision Support System (DSS) is a tool designed to allow a food manufacturer / packaging producer to understand the packaging materials available for their specific use case and to help them to select one which best matches their requirements. The tool will therefore encompass a comprehensive database of packaging materials and their key parameters along with additional qualitative data such as consumer surveys to allow for ranking of packaging materials based on those most likely to be accepted by an average consumer.
